The seeds are likely to germinate, grow into a cactus, and flower and fruit. You can also take cuttings and root them.
It takes up to a year or two to begin bearing fruit. And some varieties need another cultivar in order to set seed.
Happy Gardening!
I have grown seeds from a dragonfruit. Is it likely to flower and fruit? How long will it take?
yes, it is likely to flower and fruit given the right conditions and time. The cactus is native to Mexico,Central and South America, but is mostly cultivated in Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. It can also be propagated from cuttings and will flower at night given time. A long hot summer is needed to set fruit large enough to eat, so it is probably pollinated by moths or bats. Given th right conditions you could see a crop in as little as 4 years.
Reply:I began growing dragon fruit from seeds about one year ago. They were indoors from October 2006 until around May 2007 (I live in Montreal Canada - very harsh winters) and since then they've been outside. Growing has been rather slow, I would say the plants is about 4-5 inches high - I don't see it bearing fruit for quite a while. I am curious to know how yours turns out.
