How do you go about germinating seeds?

I've spontaneously bought some fancy-shmancy exotic flower seeds and have NO IDEA how to get them started.

I'm good with succulents, which can be tempermental (despite being low maintenance plants), so I know I can take care of something, I just don't know how to "germinate" something from seed.

Help!

How do you go about germinating seeds?
Well, you can either buy some peat cells (2-3 seeds per cell...they come with instructions) or you can just get some plastic potting containers and some seed starting mix. Fill the containers with the mix and then sow the seed. Read the directions on the back of the packages as to how far to insert the seed into the soil (if it does not say how far to insert the seed then it is usually 2x the width of the seed) If they are tiny like poppy seeds then you just sprinkle them on top of the soil surface). Keep the soil moist and in bright light until they are ready to go into the garden. At some point you may need to thin out your seedlings if they are planted to close together. Just pinch out the weaker looking seedlings so that the stronger ones have more room to grow.
Reply:It depends on the seed. If you bought good seeds, planting insruction should be on the packet. You can find on the internet how to germinate any seed by going to search and putting in "how to plant......." Some seeds need to be striated which means to plant them and put them in the refrigerator for awhile. Some seeds have to have the exposure to the cold and then made warm to sprout. Some seeds require the cold treatment and then must have light to germinate (chamomile for one) Some seeds can just be soaked overnight to help break the seed coat (sweet peas). Some seeds need to have the seed coat nicked. Best advice, go the How To search and you should get the answer to your question.
Reply:Hi:

It is not hard to germinate seeds if you take the right steps. The key to germinating many types of seeds is to purchase a light weight potting soil. (no bark) Add some vermiculite and some humus to the soil. The real key is to add hot water to the soil mixture. This gives your seeds a great start to the germination process. Make sure you water properly but don't over water them. Also, make sure you have the right light requirements. Some plants require light to geminate and some require darkness. Following these steps should produce good healthy plants.

I will link you to the spice and herb section of my website. I have a page on herb growing from seed and this explains the germination process more in detail. I have grown over 5,000 seedling in a greenhouse and also indoors. This is a good way to germinate.

I will also link you to the site map as this has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if you can find any other information that may be helpful to you. Good luck to you and if you need any further help with seed germination or any other landscape project, please feel free to contact me at the website. Have a great day!

Reply:Get some boy seeds , get some girl seeds and throw a seed prom! You are going to need a shoe box constuction paper and glitter. If you leave them alone long enough some are sure to get busy. I have other ideas if this dosen't work - but this was the cleanest idea.
