I planted some flower seeds in all fertilizer recently amd now am having problems wih maggots in the fertilize

maggots are developing inside of thhe fertilizer. is this good? if not what do buy to stop them before they ruin my up and coming flowers.

I am not sure what you are calling fertilizer? If it is composted Manure then Ya, it might attract flies and their larvae is a maggot worm! No it is not good for your seeds because if the compost is still strong enough in odor to attract flies then it is too strong for your seeds to germinate and will burn them to death, with the possible exception of squashes and gourds!


Massive doses of water to leach the soil and treatments of LIQUID LIME are the only solutions I know to that problem!
Reply:Fertilizer? Do you mean compost pile of old grass and vegie clippings? You'll want to transplant the flowers. As the vegetation in the compost decomposes, it creates heat that will harm your flowers. Just plunk them in the dirt or in containers. good luck
Reply:Well, that's because the flies have laid eggs in it. You know flies are attracted to sh--- like that.


Doesn't it smell terrible.?


Cover it with about 2 or 3 inches of soil.
